Thank you to all our donors and partners who joined us on the Celebration Belle riverboat for our 2026 Annual Meeting on April 9, spotlighting an uncommon island gift, the splendor of the Mississippi River, and philanthropy in Muscatine County.

The evening focused on a central theme: philanthropy is not only about what is given, but what it makes possible.
“Tonight we’ve demonstrated how we are collectively transforming what philanthropy does, not just gives,” shared Charla Schafer, President of the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine during the program. “In community, when leadership, vision, and resources align with philanthropy, a powerful force is created.”
As highlighted throughout the evening, that force is already in action:
Strengthening communities
Investing in the next generation
Changing the trajectory for children and families
The program also drew inspiration from Mark Twain, whose connection to the Mississippi River offered a fitting reflection. Referencing Twain’s words—“Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”— the program recognized the many individuals and organizations in attendance who have dedicatedly demonstrated this commitment, continuing to leave a lasting mark on the community.
Earlier remarks connected Twain’s observation that the river’s surface was like “a wonderful book” to the story unfolding locally. Attendees were reminded that Muscatine and Louisa Counties have already written remarkable, page-turning chapters through collaboration, generosity, and shared purpose.
Looking ahead, the next chapter is already being written—one centered on creating what Collaborate Muscatine has defined as “the ideal community.” With continued partnership, philanthropy, and momentum, the story will only grow stronger.
“With your help,” the program concluded, “it’s going to be a best-seller.”
